Showers, frequent and heavy at times. Thunderstorms possible from Taranaki southwards this evening. Westerly gales in exposed places.

Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa
Fine spells and a few showers. Northwesterlies, severe gale in exposed places south of Hastings.

Wellington
Showers, clearing late morning. Northwesterly gales.

Nelson
Showers, especially in the west.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland
Frequent showers, thundery at times. Snow lowering to 200 metres in Fiordland and 500 metres elsewhere towards evening.

Marlborough and Canterbury
Showers near the western ranges, and a few elsewhere at times. Thunder and hail possible about coastal Canterbury this afternoon and evening. Northwest gales inland, easing this morning.

Otago and Southland
Showers and cold southwesterlies, gale about the coast. Snow lowering to 200 metres towards evening.

Chatham Islands
Rain at times.
