well it looks like the corner of something made of a black moulded material (plastic perhaps) with possibly a square push button key...

Was going to suggest its a steam mop base, but now thinking it doesn't appear to be that big.

I now reckon its a corner bit of some piece of office equipment, perhaps a stapler or punch.
