Earthquake recording.....?
« on: July 25, 2013, 02:09:13 PM »
I'm going to be in Auckland for a week from Saturday and won't be posting earthquake movements over that time..
There seem to be so many tremors coming out of the Seddon/Cook Strait area, I'm wondering on the worth of duplicating the GNS data. The twitter feed gives notice of recent events and given the number of views these days even when the activity is as intense as at the moment, I'm of the opinion that the the pages have passed their "use by" date. There are a number of dedicated sites for earthquake data including GNS which people can bookmark and keep track of if that's their interest.
If any other members have strong views on wishing to keep it live and want to take over posting the data, then feel free to do so.

regards,

Tony C.

Hi Tony,
I hope you are enjoying your week in Auckland.
I see you have no takers re earthquake posting :)
Initially you started doing these to help Suezy out when she suddenly lost sight in her good eye. Unfortunately for our Suezy her sight is still not good enough to be straining what sight she has got on our forum posts.
By all means leave them be. As you say they are on the right under twitter feeds.

Hopefully when we have the larger shakes, someone from that region will post up any info or updates.
Cheers

If the actual quake occurrence and data is in the Twitter feed why not just post a Link somewhere always visible, maybe pinned to the top of the Earthquake Thread, on the Forum to GeoNet.

Then use the Earthquake to post other related articles and links like building damage and repair reports etc in the earthquake thread?

To quote others on this forum. "Just my 2 cents worth".

Kind regards
