No, not lightning, but the analogy is the same... On Friday night last week. Leanne and I were at a 50th birthday dinner - just 8 of us for a 6:30 meal at the Tokoroa Cosmopolitan Club - am a member there, and at the Olde Establishment, and at the Tokoroa Club as well. Well at the Cossy Club, their Membership Draw is on Wednesday nights, so I was not liable to be up for anything there.
At about 7:30pm, dinner was about to be served as three were very late arriving, and I received a text... a mate had been asked to press the button for the random number generator for the membership draw. Sure enough, my number was called and after 3 minutes grace, I was not there and so they announced the unlucky owner of the number was yours truly, so he had texted to me the fact I had missed out on the $800 draw. My wife was so sad and upset we weren't there to receive it... I said - I never had it before, and i still don't have it so its just bad luck and gone... just being pragmatic.
Now, at the Tokoroa Club, it is drawn again on Monday night's as well. So - you guessed it, a mate called into my office this morning (Tuesday) (ex Club President) and he told me - your number was drawn again!! this time for $900... sighhhh you gotta laugh at the irony of it all!
And to make matters worse, at the Olde Establishment, the Jokers Wild game - only drawn on Sunday afternoon's at 4pm, where there are 53 cards face down inside a glass cabinet on the wall, and the money is put in the jar for the $2 raffle bids to be in the draw - you can buy as many as you like - was up to $3,865 the week before. Now the Rules state, once it reaches $4000, it has to be drawn until there is a winner. And by then it was down to 6 cards left - ie it had been topping up for 47 weeks without a winner... So numbskull me was there the week before but only one was drawn - not me!
This week I arrived at 4:20pm - too late!! The draw had already been taken, there was a huge crowd there in the small cosy bar and it went to the 6th draw - the last card before the obvious winner was drawn out of the bucket, to take away the $4000. Because of the numbers there and the money placed in the buckjet towards the draw that night, the were was in excess of $700 left over towards the start of the next Jokers Wild! A good pot already...
So it pays to visit your clubs and participate!! Hic!
