Tom, yes, had a few emails from people who are on that service. Lots of unknown contacts in the "to" section.

Change password; and if you have contact lists elsewhere, delete the names from your Xtra list (might be a minor inconvencience if you compose mails when logged on at the website).

Yahoo are nowhere near as good as Gmail at controlling spam and hacking, in my experience.

Luckily I didn't- I checked my emails and my partner's emails using a portable app on a flash drive first

Yes, they seem rather ratty....also not the best at distinguishing between legit email (that I have got before) and rubbish

was the breach for web mail
i.e the address book was stored on the yahoo/extra servers , that was hacked?
if so, why are they telling you to change your password....when that will not help the problem
