Big highs spreading over New Zealand this week.

For some people it's been a windy first half of January - but the start of the working week will kick off with winds easing as a large high pressure system rolls in.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says the high will be centred across New Zealand by Tuesday bringing lighter winds to all regions.
"By Tuesday all of New Zealand will be covered by a large high, that means the weather will be settling down in most areas over the next 24 hours, if not already" says head weather analyst Philip Duncan.
"We'll have a light easterly flow developing north of Auckland and a light nor'west flow in the deep south.  For everyone in between expect light winds along with sea and lake breezes".
By Wednesday the high will be weakening but a new high will be hot on its heels, this time the next high will move in towards Fiordland first, further south than previous highs have tracked.
Between the two highs there may be a few showers and extra wind and cloud around the South Island for a time mid week, but compared to last week's wild weather this will barely be a blip on the radar.
This second high will bring light winds for the South Island for the end of the working week and right into next weekend.
However with this high centred so far south expect easterlies to pick up over the top of New Zealand.
Philip Duncan says Auckland Anniversary weekend looks mostly settled with a brisk easterly wind for the regions that celebrate the holiday.  Those easterlies will bring in clouds to the eastern coastline.
For the rest of New Zealand this coming weekend will be mostly sunny, settled and hot.
