It’s looking settled across New Zealand today. Plenty of sunshine is expected for just about everyone. There will be a fair amount of clouds for the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne to start with. But by these should clear out as we get into the afternoon.
 
Northland and Southland could also see a fair amount of clouds today. The clouds may be a bit more persistent there, especially Northland. But, don’t expect any precipitation to fall from them.
 
Highs today will be in the mid and upper teens. A few 20s will be possible, mainly for Waikato, Auckland and Bay of Plenty.
 
Tomorrow, things become unsettled again as a potent Tasmanian low starts to bring wind and rain ashore. The north-western mainland will be the first to feel early tomorrow morning. By midday tomorrow, much of the country should see a chance for rain and increasing winds.
 
The low looks keen to stick around through Tuesday as well.

Some of those clouds just don't want to leave. The incoming ridge of high pressure was supposed to help.
 
But, as is often the case, the high is doing more harm than good.
 
The high is trapping low level moisture which is keeping a lot of clouds in place about areas that should see a lot less clouds today.
 
Not everyone is seeing this effect, but it’s certainly keeping the skies a little on the darker side for many of you.
 
Looking around New Zealand this morning; Dunedin, Christchurch, Queenstown, Greymouth and Taupo are just a few areas that look mainly sunny. Gisborne, Wellington, Invercargill and Greymouth are among those spots with a mix of sun and clouds. Auckland and Tauranga are a few areas with mostly cloudy skies.
 
Clouds will increase across the country later today a low over the Tasman continues to increase in size and strength, whilst decreasing the distance between us and it.
 
That means today will be the last “settled” one for a few days.
