He is an interesting article on how to modify a La Crosse station running wirelessly to update every 3 - 7 seconds, the same as it does when running wired.

Battery life will be severely shortened by making this modification.

I haven't tried it, make the mods at your own risk!  :o

As far as I know, it is a good trick, it would be a good improvement to create a 3V remote battery set to enhance the life of the existing set of 2 x AA.  I preferred the hardwired high return rate that i get and just extended cables by 30m or so.  The anemometer is now fully shielded and earthed and runs perfectly.  The signal into the house from the Hygro/hub must be low impedance and works much better but I have run a cat5 for that, just need to put tails on both ends.  Power is fed from the linking cable direct from the console.

I might try this one for myself. Cabling isn't really an option for me so I need to run wirelessly.

The battery back would be a good option, I have seen somewhere an article on connecting a solar powered battery pack. I liked this idea.

It has always intrigued me as how/why the station always does a 7 second updates for 10 minutes or so after replacing the battery when running wireless. If it is capable of doing it, why not have a switch or something to allow it to happen all of the time?
