Weekly Summary for Canterbury 15/03/26
Temperature Extremes: The week started on a high note with Sunday, 08 March, seeing scorching temperatures between 28-30C.

 in parts of the region. However, a sharp cold front on Monday caused temperatures to plummet, with some areas seeing highs of only 13c

Mid-Week Warmth: Temperatures climbed again toward the end of the week. By Friday, 13 March, Christchurch recorded a high of 29c
 before a southerly change brought cooler air for the weekend.

Significant Rainfall: A major weather system "squeezed" the country on Friday, 13 March. Environment Canterbury recorded substantial daily rainfall in specific catchments, such as 29.0 mm at Carrington.

Severe Weather: MetService issued Heavy Rain Watches for the headwaters of Canterbury's lakes and rivers during the latter half of the week.

Wind Conditions: Strong northwesterlies preceded the cold fronts, while the southerly changes on Monday and Saturday brought gusty conditions to coastal areas like Banks Peninsula.
