Title: Weather In Scandinavia 2024
Post by: Mark on January 10, 2024, 07:31:48 PM
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (CN) — After 24 hours of harsh winds, low temperatures and heavy snowfall, people in the Skane area of southern Sweden woke up Thursday morning to a beautiful white carpet covering the landscape.

It was less magical for the people in around 1,000 vehicles trapped overnight on the E22 highway connecting Horby and Kristianstad in Skane.

On Wednesday, snow stopped hundreds of vehicles in both directions, including plows and tow trucks meant to clear the highway.

After a night trying to remove the continuously falling snow, authorities said Thursday that many cars had finally left the E22. Motorists, some of whom spent up to 20 hours in the traffic, questioned whether authorities could have acted quicker to evacuate people and vehicles.

Title: Scandinavia Sets Coldest Temperatures Of The Century

Northern Europe's historic cold is not only persisting, it's intensifying — and it's testing Nordic infrastructure.

In the early hours of Friday, January 5, Finland's Enontekiö airport registered a remarkable -44.3C (-47.7F). This is not only Finland's lowest reading of the century, but also the lowest in all of Fennoscandia.

Note: Fennoscandia is the geographical peninsula in Europe which includes Scandinavia, Kola, mainland Finland, and Karelia.

The unofficial road weather station of Enontekiö Hietajoki actually sank to -46.5C (-51.7F), though we can't count this.
