Title: Synop Tables??
Post by: Wolfie33 on November 30, 2017, 09:58:05 PM
Does any one have access to or a link to a basic easy to understand table for interpretation of synop data?

For stuff like . . .
Hicks Bay Aws  AAXX 30064 93196 16/// /1305 10186 20163 30196 40250 52008 60001==

I have figured out some bits, but I'm struggling with most of what googly is throwing up.

Cheers

I am not familiar with SYNOP and presumably you have this information SYNOP format (FM-12) (http://weather.unisys.com/wxp/Appendices/Formats/SYNOP.html) and Meteorological Resources - SYNOP (http://www.rwic.und.edu/metresources/synop.html) and metaf2xml: parse and decode METAR, TAF, SYNOP, BUOY and AMDAR and write data as XML (http://metaf2xml.sourceforge.net/)

I have recently been helping user sfws of the Sandaysoft Cumulus forum on his METAR decoder METAR
Nearby METAR decoded (http://www.komokaweather.com/metar/metar_display.php) but that is totally different to SYNOP.

I believe someone from NZ has also been testing sfws' METAR decoding.  In this testing it is clear that there are several additions and changes that a local METAR observation or country uses compared to the WMO guidelines making it quite a challenge to decode everything.  Possibly SYNOP is the same.

Enjoy,
Paul
