It appears to have flecks in it and to be quite light/thin but to be flat - it does not form creases and holds its shape well. Can't think... Off to bed...

Well if you wore it on your head as a bikini it would keep your ears from getting sunburnt

At the bottom centre of the image is a sewen pattern as you would use to add a tie band on the other side, ie the inside. So it could be for a chin tie for a wet weather hooded hat that covered your shoulders even so I think it is meant to be used as a hat in stormy weather - and "hat" was close. Or perhaps a cape, but Jnny said she would not wear one - either it's male only or she wouldn't go out in stormy weather haha! Or perhaps its a baby's hat and cape combo, and a stretchy chin band would fit that too.

Babs you were close with that wig guess but when I compared wig to toupee they had different definitions and hence I said no to wig.
@Babs (http://www.localweather.net.nz/smf/mlist/babs_54) I definitely dont think one would wear this in your 'convertible car'. Not at high speed thats for sure O0
