Title: Webcam sale
Post by: gabba on February 19, 2016, 08:10:00 PM
Hi

If you are thinking of getting a webcam, have a look at the dlink dcs-932l. Pbtech.co.nz currently have them in special at $69. I paid around a hundred for it a few weeks ago.

I originally brought mine as a security camera but it quickly got repurposed as a weather cam. You can see the output I get here

Webcams (http://huttweather.co.nz/site2/index.php/current-conditions/webcams)

For an ip camera it's a great price.

They seem to be low on stock so be in quick if you are interested.

Is that just running via Weather Display's Webcam Capture? Any problems getting it to talk to Weather Display?

None whatsoever. It's an ip cam so you just use the ip camera settings in wd and point it to something like IP address/image.jpg

Essentially if you can get to the image sitting in the network it will work fine

If you need to know specifics let me know and I will double check

I've got 3 of these in my house in Christchurch as security cameras.
The house had an alarm system which we prefer not to use, so I mounted 2 of them in place of the movement detectors and power them from the alarm battery. They have software built in to them which sends an email if movement is detected. Much better than a blaring alarm that everyone ignores!
They've been running for 12 months without problem.
cheers
