New Plymouth: very very windy all night.
SE wind of 80/113km hr at the airport.
Up to 68 knots (I think I read that right) at the Port, which is below me.
Still dark, cloudy, some spits of rain, 14 degrees.
Cannot see anything outside because my street and others nearby have no street lights, because of some local council stuff up, not because of the wind.
Very very noisy with the roaring of the pohutukawa trees

Sunny in New Plymouth but wind is unabated.

Wild winds are causing widespread damage and disruption in Taranaki this morning.

From the Taranaki Daily News:

The south-easterly winds, which are gusting up to 120 kmh, are lifting roofs, collapsing fences, and blowing down trees.

SH3 north of New Plymouth is understood to be closed after roofing from a nearby storage shed facility was blown across the highway, and to the west of New Plymouth a truck has been rolled.

Overcast throughout the night, with light rain or showers, and a light S to SSE breeze. Showers became heavier and more persistent in the early morning, with heavy falls between 0800 and 0900. Shower activity then eased to light persistent rain, driven by a wind which backed to the SE and freshened steadily into the afternoon. Some brief hard squalls off the sea in the mid-to-late afternoon, with longer dry spells developing by evening.
