Auckland had been experiencing an “incredibly cold run”, where temperatures plunged to -3 degrees Celsius in Whenuapai, in the city's northwest, on Sunday, and -1.6C on Monday morning.
A weekend cold snap has broken records in Auckland, with one region recording its coldest temperature in 64 years.

Record books suggested Sunday was the coldest recorded Whenuapai morning for 64 years.

Apparently this is incorrect. Someone on another forum who looked at the Whenuapai data says it has dropped below -3.0 on multiple occasions in the past 64 years, most recent being -3.5 in 1983
