Title: Forecast in Brief for Tuesday 2nd September 2014

A low lying north of the Bay of Plenty is forecast to move slowly east Tuesday. This low is allowing a moist easterly flow to persist about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne with periods of heavy rain. The heaviest falls are expected about Gisborne and the Hawkes Bay ranges north of Napier Tuesday morning where a further 70 to 90mm may accumulate on top of what has already fallen.

Northland
Scattered showers clearing tonight, and becoming fine.

Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel Peninsula
Rain clearing overnight. Fine spells tomorrow, with isolated afternoon showers in Auckland and Waikato.

Waitomo, North Taranaki, Taumarunui, Taupo, Bay of Plenty
Remaining rain clearing this evening. Fine spells tomorrow.

South Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu
Mostly cloudy. Patchy light rain tomorrow afternoon.

Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington
Mostly fine, however isolated showers about Wellington clearing tonight.

Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa, Taihape
Rain, with heavy falls, in Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. Scattered light rain for Wairarapa and Taihape.

Marlborough
Fine, apart from morning and evening coastal drizzle.

Canterbury Plains and coastal Otago
Cloud clearing tomorrow morning. Patchy low cloud or fog returning tomorrow evening.

The remainder of the South Island
Fine, apart from patchy morning and evening low cloud or fog.

The Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods.
