A front just north of Northland is expected to move very slowly south today (Sunday) and Monday. A moist airmass with easterly gales and periods of heavy rain precedes this front. In Northland, bursts of heavy rain until later this evening could bring a further 60 to 90mm in the north and east, on top of the significant amount of rain that has already fallen. In addition, bursts of heavy rain are expected about the Coromandel Peninsula from this afternoon until Monday afternoon, where 90 to 120mm may accumulate.

Northland
Rain with some heavy falls, and possible downpours this morning. Easterly gales, gusting 110 km/h in exposed places. Conditions easing in north this evening.
Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula
Rain, with some heavy falls. Strong easterlies, rising to gale, gusting 100 km/h in exposed places.
Waikato to Taumarunui, including Taupo and Bay of Plenty
A few showers in western Bay of Plenty at first, then scattered rain spreading south this evening.
From Taranaki to Wellington, including Taihape
Fine, some cloudy areas.
Gisborne to Wairarapa
Often cloudy with scattered showers, especially about Gisborne and Hawkes Bay.
Marlborough, also the Canterbury coast and Plains
Mostly cloudy, with patchy drizzle in Marlborough and about Banks Peninsula.
The remainder of the South Island, also the Chatham Islands
Fine, apart from areas of low cloud or fog morning and night.
