Title: Weather Display Live help please - Yestersday's gif
Post by: JennyLeez on March 11, 2012, 02:07:23 PM
Grant is running Weather Display Live for Russell I which I will add looks cool )
http://www.keymer.name/weather/ (http://www.keymer.name/weather/)
Other than those relevant txt files I am unable to find any other wd files or gif images that I would expect.

Question, if running the live edition does that mean the normal wd files are not uploading?
Thanks in advance.

Try this and check images locations...

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ghtaylor/weatherdisplay.htm (http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ghtaylor/weatherdisplay.htm)

The images there are relevant to now-today... :)

{email removed for privacy}

No, it does not necessarily have to send anything up, unless one of two systems are used:

[Control Panel] - [Webfiles / Web page setup] is used esp for the basic WD html and table page with images or...

[Control panel] - [Internet File creation and uploads].

The second is more suited to picking selected files/images to upload and timing, and for any php template scripted site or Ajax site needing special file creations and uploads.

Hope that helps. :)

Graeme

GrantK's data is good too - http://www.keymer.name/weather/clientraw.txt (http://www.keymer.name/weather/clientraw.txt) is up to date but every 2.5 mins which is ok.  But he doesn't seem to have any other WD image files going up.

Ok so we got as far as uploading the image we want:

Now to create it before uploading.

iomkiwi: in the control panel/internet file creation - have you got the file set to create as well as upload (two green buttons)?

Try iomkiwi's suggestion Grant.
This is the file we are working on for anyone reading this.

GrantK: Good morning Jenny :)  I'm still trying to get that FTP file to update.  The one you saw last night was from 2008 :(

JennyLeez: Good iomkiwi, pointless pushing yourself :)

JennyLeez: Do a manual update now Grant.

GrantK: @iomkiwi: When I click "upload this file now", nothing happens, even though I am using FTP server #0 (the default one).  Also tried FTP server #1, but no different.  Not sure what else to try???

iomkiwi: GrantK - we will have to wait 'til tomorrow to see the update -unless you go in to check it's working (go create file now, then upload file now)

JennyLeez: It will normally only upload once a day. Need to set that to do after midnight some how. iomkiwi hopefully know how to set that.

GrantK: OK, I'll simply copy it over for you :)

GrantK: ... sorry, back up... I have it set to every minute for testing at the moment, but still nothing is happening.

OK guys ... thanks for your patience  :)

I have just been poking around in the settings for File #8 (dailyhighlowbaroetc.gif).  Clicking "create this file now" works, because I can see the file modified time changing in Windows Explorer.  Now it is changing every minute, according to what I have set.

However, clicking "Upload this file now" does nothing, in spite of me trying:

-  FTP Server #0 (the default one)
-  FTP Server #1 (which I just set up on the back page)

Any other suggestions?

Grant I am out for 15.
When I come back I will put WD machine up. I know Phil and I mucked around getting the manual ones to work.
I will be back at you unless Alan sorts it out meanwhile.

Ok running to dairy....well to car anyways :)

In the main 'Internet file create' box do you have both main switch and override switch set to ON

I do have the Override ON Switch set, but there is no Main Switch in 10.37P that I can see.  Which tab are you looking at?

... Unless you were meaning the Main Internet Switch in FTP/Internet Setup, in which case, Yes it is ON.

this one

- but I think it is another way of turning on what you have already turned on (so you don't need to go to another box)

Thanks Alan.  I can see now that the latest version of WD is quite a bit different than mine.

However, it looks like I have it sorted.  On the page where the Main Internet Switch is, I also needed to add the FTP server details.  So deleted them from the FTP Server #1 boxes in Internet File Creation, and transferred them over.

Now the file is updating on my website, so have left it set to upload once per hour, and will see how it goes.  If OK, I will change it to just upload once per day at say 10 past midnight, which presumably should be OK if Jenny wants to look at it?

I just saw it as you typed this - and thought all of todays readings look about right.

Glad we got it sorted

Yes just upload it once a day, if you haven't put it into the thread by late in the day any of us could grab it and put it in

and there she is blue and orange.
All good Grant.
Yes set to upload after mid night.
Then you can do your highs and Lows when want next day.
If you dont get a chance then I can check the gif and add to spreadsheet.
This will be a good thread for others to use as time goes on.

and dare I suggest this but maybe  an upgrade is next for you to give you a whole new lot of headaches. But backup what you have first :)

Cheers

All good JL -- so long as you're happy, that's the main thing  ;)

http://www.keymer.name/weather/clientraw.txt[/url] is up to date but every 2.5 mins which is ok.  But he doesn't seem to have any other WD image files going up.
It's interesting you noticed that TokWW because it's supposed to be every minute.  What sometimes happens is that WD's FTP Upload utility sometimes ignores my setting for Remote Directory and dumps the files in the root of my website.  Hence, WDL and anyone else looking for the latest ClientRaw.txt doesn't find them.

Anyone else ever experienced this?

It happens a few times every hour, but most often works correctly.

All good guys, I didn't have a view of the old previous versions of WD of the Web Files/Web page uploads tab cos it is simple in there but as he said it was on the old Tab #2.  But with the File Create / File upload setup it should work once both switches are green and times set. I think there is about three ways of uploading that file... LOL!  FTP Group Uploads is another. At work and busy, no WD here LOL!
