Title: Before and After
Post by: RobertHH on February 07, 2014, 11:37:53 AM
BBC News - Before, during and after: Southern storms (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26064424)

I hope that you can follow the above link, the photo's tell most of the story.
Unfortunately this system of weather does not look like ending any time soon, and
the UK is just one giant mud bath.

That is an amazing link. We watch the TV programme called Coast that is filmed from the air around the UK and wonder just how much of your coastline has been washed away or changed since the storms began.

Amazing comparisons and so much damage.

Thanks Robert.

Having watched Coast, you will realise that the coast is constantly changing with areas building up whilst others are erroded, but these storms are smashing and tearing apart areas that have been stable for years.
Unfortunately the current government is more concerned with spending money on a new train set that could only be of interest to the super rich and could never be a viable commercial proposition. They are not interested in protecting or helping ordinay people and just pay lip service to the environmental and infrastructure problems of the UK. It makes little differece if it is the NHS, Old people, Young people, Coastline or the devestation caused by flooding, as long as it doesn't effect one of their own, they don't care. The Somerset Levels have been flooded since Christmas and it is only in the last week that the Government has shown the slightest interest; now that the farms are devoid of animals and the whole area is one big cess pit.
All of the problems are solvable but it requires Government to spend some of our money on things to help us, rather than new toys.

As I write this, the Somerset Levels are being abandoned with virtually everyone being evacuated from the area. The water continues to rise and another major storm is on its way, so we have even more areas of the country flooded or about to be. This new storm is likely to be accompanied by very high wind speeds of around 100mph and I have no doubt that the devestation and damage will be extensive. With the jet stream running at speeds in excess of 300mph and fixed in its current path, it looks as though this may just be the start of something rather than something nearing its end.

Sadly Robert it is a universal attitude with politicians and governments since man started walking this planet and will never change, as any student of history will confirm.
