SWELTERING Victorians are hanging on for a cool change as the city temperature reached a top of 42C at about 2.30pm.
The extreme heatwave has stretched paramedics to the limit, forcing households to swelter amid power blackouts and commuters to battle transport chaos.
Ambulance Victoria has treated 398 patients suffering from heat exhaustion this week, including 30 people today.
More than 40 children have also been treated by paramedics since Monday after being left in cars.
