Anyone on the Port hills and also at the base of the hills have been in the White Zone - in other words in limbo - because of the possibility of being hit by very large rocks from above or collapse over the cliff.. They have not been able to sell their homes (those that are nowhere near the cliff edge) and move on.- or have not been paid out by Insurance as waiting on Geotech advice as to the stability of the land. A lot of these homes are very badly damaged and others have very little damage In the video you will see where houses are hanging over the cliff and one in particular is nearly all over the cliff. This video is taken from Sumner looking upwards. Your will also see the containers alongside the road that are there for the rockfalls so that the roadway can be used - otherwise Sumner would be cut of completely. I have friends on Hillsborough - just a few cracks in the concrete drive and they are also in the white zone from possible rock falls from above. Also the rocks above are absolutely massive and they have been blasting a lot of them a few months back and others have been rolled down anywhere there are no homes below. They also have had things inserted into the ground down the roadways which are checked regularly to see how stable the land is for avoidance of landslides.
The Summit road is absolutely covered with these rocks and there has been mooted that the road may never be opened up again.
