This afternoon, sea breezes are expected to enhance moisture convergence at the surface in Northland, Auckland and the west of Waikato. This is likely to generate some showers that could be heavy and there is a low risk of thunderstorms.

The low risk continues in the north of Northland this evening as unstable northwesterlies strengthen. Any thunderstorms then could be accompanied by strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

A front is expected to move onto the south of Fiordland this evening and there is a low risk of thunderstorms with heavy rain.
