Upper North Island
Showers with breezy west to southwesterly winds, becoming gusty in the evening. Expect long dry spells at times with a few sunny spells even possible in the afternoon. Showers may be heavy at times evening onwards in the west.
Lower North Island
Periods of rain or showers with southerly quarter breezes.
Upper South Island
Areas of rain north off Banks Peninsula becoming patchy during the afternoon, cloudy skies with light winds tending northeast. On the West Coast north of Hokitika it may be mainly dry till afternoon when showers move in with southwesterlies.
Lower South Island
Cloudy with north to northeasterly breezes, the odd shower or drizzle patch is possible on the east coast. Expect rain south of Haast in the west easing to showers in the afternoon as winds change southwest. A period of rain or showers moves through Southland and Otago during the afternoon and evening with a westerly change.

A front is expected to move south over Northland and Auckland this afternoon but weaken as is passes over Waikato. There is a moderate risk of thunderstorms associated with this front for Northland and Auckland during the afternoon.
A low risk of evening thunderstorms also exists for the Coromandel Peninsula, northern Waikato and the coastal areas of Waikato,Waitomo and northern Taranaki.
Southwesterlies are expected to rise to gale in exposed parts of Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula Sunday afternoon. Gusts could reach around 100 km/h. The wind is expected to ease Monday evening.
Heavy rain in the north of Gisborne has eased, showers for most of the north island. Sunny spells for the top half. Showers for the east and the south half.
