An active front is expected to move northwards over Westland during Wednesday evening, and may then stall over north Westland or Buller during Thursday. Heavy rain is expected to set in Wednesday morning in Westland, and Wednesday afternoon in Buller. Rain should ease late Wednesday for most of Westland but is likely to continue off and on through Thursday in areas north of Hokitika. Rivers and streams are likely to rise rapidly once the heavy rain sets in.
