The tropical Low/Storm that we were supposed to take the full brunt of today has turned out to be a bit of a damp squib. By lunchtime today we had only received a total of 5mm of rainfall for the whole event. The wind has not been as strong here as was predicted and has been felt in some other places not that far away from us as the crow flies. Max gust of only 38 km/hr at midnight, currently only 9.0 km/hr from the ESE. Wind direction has swung between NE & SE all day but has mainly been an Easterly, reasonably steady in intensity all day, maybe a little more intense towards the end of the day but dropped quite suddenly just after 18:00 this evening. Max temperature was 16.2c at 21:53 which is very late in the day and not the norm, still currently 13.1c and rising, can't remember when I have seen this before but no doubt it has happened. Barometer has fallen steadily if not spectacularly all day from 1022.8 hPa at Midnight to 1010.8 hPa now, however I think it is still higher than you would expect from a Sub Tropical Low/Storm, usually in the 998 hPa to 995 hPa range. Maybe it is losing intensity and not deepening as they usually do when they approach New Zealand from the north Tasman.
