The southerly system reached Hawkes Bay at around 0200 this morning, with a slow increase in temps after a clear evening prior. Windspeeds began to pick up and became gusty from 0400.

Currently we're at 8.4 C, with a wind-chill of 4.2 C, and a strong gusty SW wind. Best gust today so far is 54kmh, and the wind continues to freshen. Occasional squally showers, and one was observed to briefly turn to sleet at about 0800... :o Today's rainfall since midnight is just 0.5mm, but I have to wonder how much is being blown right over the raingauges...lol!

In stormy conditions like these, the Inspeed Vortex anemometer is far more accurate at catching high gusts than is the La Crosse one, whose sample-rate is too slow. The Inspeed instrument is instantaneous. At low windspeeds there's not much between them.

At Ohauiti just South West of Tauranga it is sunny but with a very cold West to South Wind gusting to between 20 and 50 km/hr. We are too far away from the Kaimai Ranges to see if it has snowed or not this time but it sure feels like it has or is snowing south of here.
