Title: Forecast - Saturday 8.06.2013
Post by: Te Puke Weather on June 08, 2013, 08:01:26 AM
It's a bit of a mix this weekend with sunshine, frosts but also breezy conditions with some rain and showers either today and tomorrow.

Saturday though looks wettest along the West Coast and some cloudy areas across the north and east of the North island could also be getting ready to deliver some showers here and there.

Frosty conditions though this morning are greeting some parts of central New Zealand and this is where the most sunshine appears to be heading for today.

A nor' west flow ahead of a frontal system is building over the Mainland and this is the system reponsible for bringing the wet stuff for West Coasters and possibly Southlanders later.

Temperatures overall today are a tad above normal this afternoon and for much of the weekend for many areas.

Coronet peak is set to open today depending on wind conditions and Mt Hutt is schedule to start its season next Saturday.

Today we're two weeks away from the shortest day but just a reminder that often the coldest temperatures can be for the following four to six weeks.

A complex trough is expected to move across central New Zealand Saturday night and Sunday morning, then across northern New Zealand later Sunday. This trough is preceded by a moist northerly flow, with a period of rain likely in many areas of New Zealand.

A Warning for heavy rain has been issued for Nelson and also Mount Taranaki.

This Watch is for a period of heavy rain in Bay of Plenty and Gisborne, from about Tolaga Bay northwards, where rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria. The rain is expected to develop in western Bay of Plenty during Sunday morning, then gradually spread east to reach northern Gisborne towards evening.

Title: Forecast - Saturday Night 8.06.2013
Post by: JennyLeez on June 08, 2013, 07:06:33 PM
A trough is expected to move across central New Zealand Saturday night and Sunday morning, preceded by a moist northerly flow. In a 12-15 hour period from Saturday evening to Sunday morning, 80-130mm of rain is likely to accumulate in the ranges of Nelson, while 50-80mm could accumulate at lower levels. During the same period, 100-120mm of rain is likely on Mount Taranaki.

People are advised that the heavy rain could cause rivers and streams to rise rapidly, surface flooding and slips, and make driving hazardous.
