Friday
A front is moving across New Zealand today, bringing a burst of heavy rain to many places. In Nelson, rain is likely to be persistent about the ranges for most of the day, with accumulations of 80-100mm. However, during the afternoon a burst of localised heavy rain may affect other parts of the region, with peak intensities of 20-35mm per hour possible. Later today rain is expected to become heavy in eastern Bay of Plenty and continue through to about midday tomorrow, with accumulations of 80-100mm about the ranges in a 15 hour period. People in these areas are advised that streams and rivers are likely to rise rapidly and surface flooding and slips are possible.
