Manchester St fully reopens

The cordon was reduced last night as part of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority's (CERA) "continuing efforts to lift restrictions" on the central business district.

The entire central city cordon is expected to be lifted by the end of June and sections of the current cordon will continue to fall in the lead up over the next three months.

Once buildings within the cordon are made safe or fenced off and roads, street lights and footpaths are made operational further cordons can be removed, CERA said.

The Manchester St reduction creates an east rebuild zone, similar to the north-south zones created by the opening of Gloucester St.

"After the full cordon is lifted, fencing will remain around sites where demolition, construction or infrastructure work is in progress," CERA said.
