There have been several earthquakes near Wairoa this evening.
The latest was at 5:45pm and registered 4.1 in magnitude.
It was located 35 kilometres south-east of Wairoa at a depth of 15 kilometres.
Two more struck only moments before - one a 3.7 shake and the other a 3.2.
Both of those were located south of Wairoa.

From 5.36pm to 6.24pm there has been 8 small quakes.

The second swarm started at 9.24pm and we have had 6 more quakes taking the total to 14 in 5 hours.
The last swarm are all small with the strongest 3.3 mag.
The lot has shifted slightly inland.
Added: 2nd Swarm consisted of 9 Quakes over 2 hours ending 11.29pm

8 all up - mainly in the bay aat abt 18 or 19 deep. 3.1S - 2.3 W - 3.5 S = 4.1 SE (39.36 177.58) - 3.4 S - - 2.8 S - 2.7 S - 2.2 S All mainly south.
Since then you are getting another swarm
9.24 2.0 S Wairoa - 9.31 2.1 SE Gisborne - 9.41 - 2.4 N Wairoa - 9.44 3.3 S Wairoa - 9.48 2.6 S Wairoa - 10.01 2.4 SW Wairoa - 10.02 2.6 NE Napier - 10.37 2.3 S Wairoa.

3rd Swarm began at 12.46am and as at 2.50am the last one was at 2.13am.
This swarm consists of 10 Quakes.
Total Quakes over approximately 8.5 hours was 27 ranging from 1.8 mag to 4.2 mag.

A 4th Swarm started with a 4.8mag at 7.21am this morning. From then to 9.37 there were 10 more smaller Quakes.
Total now over the last 16 hours is 38 quakes coming from 4 swarms.
