Title: Some high sunshine totals for January

It should be noted that in this list (only a partial selection of sites) the stations using manual equipment (Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorders) - Wellington, Christchurch and Nelson - are usually at a disadvantage to the electronic ones, which generally give significantly higher readings, especially in the early phases of use by the latter. The former include Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch.

Tekapo 325 (hrs) Whakatane 318 Rangiora 309 Gisborne 308 Cromwell 306 Nelson 306 New Plymouth 304 Waipawa 298 Christchurch 289 Blenheim 281(*) Albany 280 Hokitika 270 Queenstown 266 Wellington 263 Greymouth 262 Mangere 255 Dunedin 237 Invercargill 221 Mt Cook Village 215

Record high for Ch'ch; the Blenheim figure is not far above average and I suspect there may be issues at the site.
