January's monthly data is now available here:
http://www.hbweather.8m.com/custom2.html (http://www.hbweather.8m.com/custom2.html)
A month of superb summer weather, with markedly little rain...again! Sunshine hours were above normal, due to many completely clear days. Temps were a little above normal, and windspeed was right on the norm. A very warm spell between the 9th and 15th included the hottest day of the month on the 10th - 33.3 C.
Napier has now had 5 months with around half normal monthly rainfalls.

Where does your sun data come from George? I notice Nelson Park has been haywire in recent months (intercomparison with Waipawa and Gisborne - though the latter's EWS is probably reading a bit too high - shows Napier numbers much too low in September and December, and also a bit low in Oct-Nov as well).

I have my own sunshine recorder, Rupert. Its an Instromet device, imported from the UK. Where are you finding Nelson Park sunshine figures? A comparison would be interesting....
Cheers.

The NIWA website has monthly summaries - the stats. section is included about 3-4 weeks after the end of the month in question. At about this time or a little earlier you can find the monthly data at NIWA's CliFlo. Napier numbers were OK up to August. Sept. onwards values are suspect, but the overoptimistic values at Gisborne EWS complicate comparisons.
Sep-Dec totals: Napier 188 217 230 198 (Sep, Dec look plain wrong)
Waipawa EWS 210 220 226 225 Gisborne 241 249 251 271 (they look too high for sure).
Even with the "advantage" of an EWS Waipawa is usually a little behind Napier. Gisborne (manual, now closed) is generally similar to Napier but overall slightly less in averages. I think Napier has recording issues now, and Gisborne has become just another in the list of EWS-exaggerated readings.
