MetService has warned of possible severe gales for Hawke's Bay tonight and Tuesday morning, particularly in central Hawke's Bay, with temperatures in the high twenties also expected.
A west to southwest flow is expected to strengthen over central New Zealand this afternoon.
MetService said from central Hawkes Bay to Wairarapa west to southwest winds could gust to severe gale strength overnight Monday and during Tuesday morning.
Manager Public Weather Services, Ramon Oosterkamp, said in eastern areas temperatures will rise into the high twenties, and may exceed thirty for some to go with these blustery conditions.
He said more settled conditions are likely for the end of the week, as a new high builds over much of New Zealand.
