Only one problem with that - the suggested "paradise" period alluded to in the past didn't exist!
Tax is no problem at all for the very wealthy - they push the burden onto others.

Yes the Bards and Lords all taxed their serfs or forced them into a submissive living style trapped with minimal food and wages and gave them a roof over their heads... and a job... the Romans taxed heavily, I'm sure the Ancient Chinese did too!
