Paekakariki - This morning dawned with big, high up roll clouds between here and the Strait coming off the hills, they were enormous. Normally a sign of a front or crook weather on the way. Some lenticular, but not very strong at all. Beautiful convection all along the hills blocking the rising sun. Met Service forecast us as NW, but it was a fairly strong and cold SW. Cleared to a lovely day but cool WSW breeze and enormous convection in the hills to the NE this afternoon. No rain. People across the road lit their fire about 3, and smoke was blowing almost a straight W with SW gusts over our place. WeatherWatch were spot on for Paek, as they forecast the WSW.

Mostly sunny across the North Island today with a few areas of cloud. Cloudy areas more frequent from Taranaki through to Kapiti along the coast with a few morning showers clearing, expect west to southwesterly breezes. Sunny on the east coast from Gisborne through to Wairarapa with light winds tending southwesterly for a time.
Mostly sunny from Mid Canterbury through to Nelson today in the South Island, light winds tending southerly in Mid and North Canterbury. In South Canterbury expect some morning cloud however sunny areas will increase, southerlies ease later. Cloudy with a few showers to start in Southland and Otago with south to southwesterly breezes, sunny breaks develop after midday.
Cloudy areas about South Westland with westerly breezes and morning showers clearing, odd drizzle patches possible in southern areas of Fiordland through the day. Sunny areas and some cloud in North Westland and Buller with light westerlies, a few morning showers clear there also.
High’s of 17 to 18 from the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty northwards today, also along the east coast. Gisborne and parts of Northland may reach the low 20’s however. Most other areas in the mid teens. 16 to 17 degrees today for Canterbury though to Nelson, mid teens on the West Coast. 13 to 14 in Southland and Otago.

Today we have mostly sunny weather across the country although there is some cloud across lower areas of the South Island. The North Island is largely cloudy free but there is a reasonable southwesterly breeze blowing. WeatherWatch.co.nz forecasters say to enjoy this sunshine while it lasts as conditions will deteriorate later on Friday for most as our low now developing on the east coast of Australia nears.
Temperatures so far today along the east coasts of both islands north of Canterbury, also the Bay Of Plenty and Northland have been fairly pleasant up into the high teens or early 20’s. Good old Gore a bit on the cold side sitting on 9 degrees.
Rainfall hasn’t been too high about the country over the past 24 hours although that’s not to say there has been no rain, the West Coast of the South Island and about the Catlins has received upwards of 5mm in places. Northeastern parts of Northland received the most due to a rain band, 10 to 15mm fell there yesterday.
