Northwesterly breezes for the North Island today, a mix of sunny areas and some cloud. The odd shower about Taranaki and Kapiti during the day, morning showers clear in Wellington. Low risk of a shower passing through at times in other areas. Mostly sunny on the east coast with mild temperatures, some high cloud north of Hawkes Bay. About eastern Bay Of Plenty expect rain easing to showers in the afternoon then clearing in the evening.
Cloudy on the West Coast with northerlies, periods of rain north of Fiordland spread southwards in the evening in the form of drizzle. Sunny areas and some cloud about Nelson with northwesterly breezes. Mostly sunny with some high cloud from about Cheviot northwards along the east coast, light winds may tend northwest.
Any morning drizzle clears about Christchurch then expect a few sunny areas from afternoon, light winds. Remaining cloudy in Mid Canterbury southwards through to Otago with morning rain easing to the odd drizzle patch in the afternoon and dry spells, southeasterlies ease also.
Cloudy areas about Southland with southeasterlies easing, mostly dry although there may be a few brief drizzle patches at times mainly at night.
Temperatures in the early 20’s on the east coast of the North Island today, 17 to 18 elsewhere however 15 to 16 about Wellington. 15 for Christchurch on the east coast of the South Island today up to 17 in Blenheim and Nelson. 12 to 13 degrees for the West Coast, Southland and Otago.

Really decent convection over Paekakariki with really massive anvils forming over Mt Wainui, they're huge, as well as some decent oval, multiple stacked lenticulars - flying saucers. Other big cumulus eruptions just off shore here late this afternoon (big cringe), from Kapiti Island and big anvils later rose over Pukerua Bay and the South Island. Coming along the hills from the NE direction. Bit of pileus at Paraparaumu this evening. Wind changed direction and is now very cold and from the West-SW. straight off the sea.

A second low has developed off the coast of Canterbury today, this complex low is weakening over the South Island and will move southwards during the rest of today.
The West Coast of the South Island is still getting a fair amount of rain, the most rain for the past 24 hours around the country has been about Reefton which has received 38.2 mm. The warmest temperatures are on the east coast of the North Island with Napier currently the warmest on 22 degrees. Dunedin conversely is the coldest main centre on 8 degrees.
Jet stream cloud is moving across the upper North Island, temperatures are mainly pleasent and as mentioned before the east coast being the warmest spot to be.
Wind is not much of an issue about the country today, Westport through to Hokitika is the windiest area with breezy northerlies averaging from 30 to 40 km/h.

Nothing remotely that dramatic in the city. The Kapiti Coast gets much more "interesting" weather in the disturbed W-SW flows than does the city, something some of its more one-eyed aficionados either ignore or don't even understand.
