It will be a settled and dry day across the country with a few exceptions.
A large ridge of high pressure is parked just off to our east today. That means a stable atmosphere which in turn means a brilliant spring day for almost everyone.
The only exceptions will be about the top and bottom of the country. Northland is likely to be in clouds for much of the day. A few rogue showers are possible as well.
The Coromandel Peninsula and western Bay of Plenty could see some showers this morning. These should clear before noon.
Finally, southern Westland, inland Southland and Central Otago will also see a lot of clouds along with the chance for some light showers. The best chance for seeing precipitation in these areas will be from noon. But don’t count on getting wet. The chances are small.

Very few places around New Zealand have not had a settled day. In fact, even up around Whangarei where it’s been pretty cloudy, there was at least a bit of sun to start the day.
A weak disturbance is scooting across the Tasman Sea this afternoon. That is helping to build up some clouds about the rest of the northern North Island. But don’t look for any rain today. The South Island will see a few clouds about the deep south.
WeatherWatch.co.nz Facebook readers called today “gorgeous” and “brilliant”.
Temperatures ranged from 17 at Invercargill to 13 at Wellington.
