Tokoroa - 9am
After an overnight low of 4.1ºC, it was a cloudy morning with an overcast sky - low cloud, but now it has lifted and there is a mainly blue sky all around with a thin alto-stratus layer in most places giving a speckled patterned look.
This should continue burning off for a lovely day. perhaps more clouds later in the afternoon with advection. The temp has climbed to 11.8ºC, the baro is also rising as expected = 1021.8hPa and it does herald the approach of a decent High or Anticyclone but it may be shorter lived than at first proposed.
Three more days I would say, before more skiffs hit central NI on Sunday afternoon I guess.

Morning cloud and showers clearing in the west of the North Island today and becoming mostly sunny although cloudy conditions may hang around north of Auckland till midday, winds will tend east to southeast by midday. Cloudy on the east coast with showers or drizzle patches developing about midday as southerlies freshen then clearing later at night, a few snow flurries to 800m also. Similar weather will affect the central plateau as on the east coast however there may be sunny breaks at first in the morning and the risk of showers is lower.
Wellington may receive mostly dry weather however it should be cloudy with a chance of drizzle from late morning. Later in the evening a few showers move through north of Auckland in an east to southeasterly airflow.
Sunny areas increase from morning in Southland and Otago with easterly winds, cloud may hang around a bit longer on the Otago coast then breaking after midday. Drizzle patches and snow flurries to 500m clear in coastal Canterbury by midday however lingering inland till evening, a few sunny breaks by late afternoon near the coast as south to southeasterly winds ease. Drizzle patches and snow flurries to 700m develop in Marlborough by mid morning then clear in the evening as southeasterly winds ease there.
About Buller and the northwest Nelson ranges isolated showers may develop in the afternoon. Expect mostly sunny weather on the West Coast otherwise with areas of cloud particularly in the morning, light winds.
16 to 17 degrees on average once again for the Bay of Plenty and Waikato northwards, however also this time along most of the west coast down through to Kapiti. 13 to 14 degree high’s elsewhere. Cool in the South Island with high’s ranging from 9 to 11 degrees along the east coast, perhaps rising to 12 in Blenheim. About Nelson and along the West Coast high’s will be in the mid teens.

It’s a fairly cloudy day across New Zealand with few sunny areas about, mainly there is some sun in the west of the North Island and parts of North Westland and Buller in the South Island. And as the afternoon moves on sunny breaks will develop about Southland and Central Otago. Temperatures are warmer in the west also which makes sense, the likes of New Plymouth and Hokitika are sitting around 16 degrees, Auckland is close on 15.5 degrees.
Winds are fairly cool in the east of both Islands today, Kaikoura feeling it the most on 5.9 degrees at the moment with 37 km/h southerlies. Shower activity is mostly about the upper South Island, east coast of the North Island and parts of Northland, also inland Canterbury however is petering out there.
Where cloudy areas break tonight in the South Island frosts are likely to develop, Southland and Otago being the main candidates but parts of Canterbury also could be in store for them. Frost won’t be harsh though.
