A few showers develop in western areas of the North Island this morning heavy for a time about Taranaki and Northland, heavy falls again mid to late afternoon in Taranaki, also Bay of Plenty and north of Waikato with the risk of a thunderstorm or two. Northerlies change westerly at night with rain easing to showers.

The east coast of the North Island will remain dry for most of the day with northeasterlies freshening and some high cloud increasing.

Rain develops in Nelson by midday with northerlies, heavy falls are possible. Sunny areas and some cloud to start in Marlborough and Canterbury however cloud thickens from midday with drizzle patches from afternoon turning to rain in the evening, winds tend northeast in Marlborough and easterly in Canterbury.

Mostly sunny in Otago, some cloud at times thickening along the coast in the afternoon where there may be some drizzle by evening, drizzle or patchy rain spreading inland at night. Dry in Southland for most of the day with northeasterlies tending southeast later, sunny areas and some increasing cloud.

In Buller and Tasman rain develops this morning heavy at times easing to showers later in the evening, along the rest of the West Coast expect cloudy skies and a few showers turning to rain late afternoon, easing to showers again at night. North to northeasterly winds.

Mild temperatures north of the Waikato and Bay of Plenty around 16 or 17 degrees, also north of Hawkes Bay along the east coast. Mid teens elsewhere however low double figures about the Central North Island. 13 degrees about the top of the South Island, 11 or 12 in most other coastal areas. Central Otago just getting into double figures after a frosty start.
