NIWA numbers to 30th give you 139.5 hours - pretty respectable against some very mediocre totals in the eastern areas amongst others. You're on a roll this year - even if a few % were discounted for instrument change the number would still look very good.

Yes, we have had a good year. From the subjective point of view, the difference seems to have been weaker SE winds than normal

North of Auckland expect isolated showers some of which may be heavy with thunderstorms easing in the evening.

Mostly cloudy skies expected over most of the South Island also apart from in the far south and west, expect east to northeasterly breezes. Rain once again about the foothills in North Canterbury. In Marlborough and eastern parts of Tasman expect rain with heavy falls possible. Showers at times further south along the east coast with more of a focus on the foothills area of Canterbury and the coastal hills from Oamaru through to Dunedin, there will be dry breaks at times nearer the coast in Canterbury with some places remaining dry all day long.

Dry in Southland and about Central Otago with some cloud developing during the afternoon, northeasterly breezes. The general anomaly has been a marked reduction of westerlies, and weaker anticyclonic easterly quarter flows.
