Really foggy in town here around the University - coming down in heavy patches and then lifting to some extent, can hardly see across the road at times.
It's making it even more gloomy than normal here....  ::)

Title: Tuesday’s national forecast
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 25, 2012, 01:40:31 AM
Sunny areas and some cloud over most of the North Island today, winds will be light. A few brief showers possible at times however for most places. Cloudier along the east coast and about Wellington with periods of rain, heavy at times and east to southeasterly winds. Temperatures quite mild especially north of the Waikato reaching 17 or 18 degrees. In the mid teens elsewhere however low double figures in the Wairarapa and Wellington.

South to southeasterly winds will be strong possibly gale force later in the day about Cook Strait, Wellington and southern areas of Wairarapa.

Sunny for most on the South Island’s West Coast with southeasterly breezes, perhaps a few showers spreading into Buller and western Tasman from the east however with cloudier skies. Rain spreads to most regions north of Christchurch by midday, winds will be cool from the south. In Marlborough rain will be heavy at times with strong to gale force southerly winds developing especially on the coast by evening. Skies will be becoming cloudy by midday from Christchurch south to about Ashburton and there may be some drizzle develop then also, drizzle will be more widespread later in the day. Cool with southerlies.

Mostly sunny about South Canterbury, Otago and Southland after a frosty start however light south to southeasterly winds develop in the evening with some cloud, drizzle at night mainly in the east. Temperatures between 9 and 11 degrees for most today however a degree or two warmer about the top of the South Island. The West Coast should get afternoon temperatures into the mid teens perhaps even up to 16 or 17 degrees in South Westland if your lucky enough to be in the area for the day.

Title: Threat of severe weather easing
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 25, 2012, 01:43:03 AM
For half of New Zealand (mostly the southern half) the weather has hardly been newsworthy in recent days - and soon the calmer, sunnier and drier weather will spread to all of New Zealand as the threat of severe weather diminishes this week.

WeatherWatch.co.nz forecasters say the large sub-tropical low that brought slips and flooding to Coromandel Peninsula and western Bay of Plenty on Monday will cross the upper North Island over the next day or two as it slowly fizzles out.

Behind it is a large high that will see sunnier and drier weather spread across New Zealand. This weather has already moved in to the West Coast on Monday.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday all look mostly settled for the country at this stage, bar a few remaining showers around East Cape, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay on Thursday - which may linger until Friday around Gisborne.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says most places will see conditions improving on Wednesday and Thursday...and for those who have had mostly sunny weather, well, it's likely to continue for a few days yet. The only exception will be Tuesday and Wednesday along the South Island's east coast as some light rain and showers heads south along the coastline.

Rain is expected to turn to snow above 500m around Christchurch on Wednesday - with the city likely to only reach 8 degrees.

Sunnier weather should return to the eastern South Island across Thursday and Friday although clouds caught up in the nor'easter may continue.

And what about that warm weather in the upper North Island? It will continue for Tuesday and then shift closer to normal temperatures later in the week - however temperatures may well remain above average for the rest of July in the Top Half, which is good news for dairy farmers with grass growth expected to lift.

Title: Cloudy unless your in Westland
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 25, 2012, 01:44:49 AM
Skies are mostly cloudy over the North Island today, there are a few sunny breaks sneaking through at times. Scattered showers are also about the place but many dry areas as well, some of these isolated showers are a little heavy by the looks at times.

Temperatures are very nice north of the Waikato despite the cloud, 17 and 18 degrees looks common and perhaps some areas may crack 19 in Northland today. Cooler about Wellington in the low teens at present.

The South Island’s West Coast as forecast is sunny and has brilliant weather, there is some cloudy areas however north of about Greymouth. Light rain or drizzle has made it to Christchurch this afternoon but not as far as Ashburton for the time being and may stay away from there till tonight.

A weak front approaching the lower South Island at the moment will blanket most eastern areas tonight with cloud and drizzle. Temperatures are cool for most in the south today however it is warmer on the West Coast, will be interesting to see more official temperatures readings this evening from the likes of Milford.
