Miners are trapped in underground refuge chambers at a gold mine in Waihi after a fire broke out.
About 5am today a truck engine caught fire in Newmont Waihi Gold's Trio underground mine, leaving those working there trapped in refuge chambers.
The mine said all personnel had been accounted for.

Some of the 28 miners who were trapped by fire in a Waihi underground mine have been able to get out.

A very good result there and very pleasing to hear.
Ithink with God mines they do not have the problem with Methane though like the coal mines.
