Wet in Waitakere, rain has been falling at a pretty consistent 1 mm/hr or so since around yesterday midday - total since midnight is 9.0 mm and yesterday was 13.6 mm.
Very little change in temperature occurring, overnight low was 13.3°C, currently at 13.4°C but did get to 13.8°C during the early hours - with a high of 14°C forecast by WXSIM it may be an all time low diurnal variation recorded for my station.

Title: Heavy rain and flooding update Monday 16th
Post by: JennyLeez on July 16, 2012, 09:53:15 AM
Much of the North Island continues to be drenched in a continuous rainfall, some of it quite heavy.  Some areas have seen rain for well over 24 straight hours.  Rain has also returned to the upper South Island.
Heavy rain warnings are in effect for Taranaki, The Tararau Range, the hill country of Waitomo, southern Waikato, the eastern ranges of the Bay of Plenty and about the Central Plateau.
Generally, peak rainfall rates of 15 to 20mm/hr are expected.  However, rates of 20 to 30mm/hr are possible this morning about Taranaki.
Periods of heavy rain are expected to ease by early afternoon for Taranaki.  The rest of the regions under the warnings will probably see periods of heavy rain through late afternoon.
On the South Island, whilst no warnings are in effect, caution should be used about the far upper regions as any additional rainfall is likely to aggravate problems caused by yesterday's heavy rain.  Heavy rain is already diminishing and should completely end by late morning.
There is a risk for heavy and thundery falls for the western South Island this afternoon and evening.  Government forecaster MetService feels there is a low risk extending from Fiordland to Buller Bay.  The moderate risk runs from Fiordland to southern Westland.

I dressed in my nite attire as normal. Had all the normal blankets on and slowly but surely everything was thrown off.

A wet day here in Waitakere, rain has been consistent at around 1 mm/hr to 2 mm/hr for most of the day - save for a heavy shower around 11.15 am which reached about 30 mm/hr.  Total for the day so far is 16.8 mm and climbing...
Current temperature is 12.8°C - has got up to 14.6°C and the lowest so far is 12.6°C at 3.40 pm so our diurnal range is just 2°C at the moment...
(my record low diurnal range is 2.8°C...)
Title: Monday’s national forecast
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 16, 2012, 08:10:20 PM
She’s a wet one across the North Island today.

Strong northerly winds in most areas gale force about the coast in the west north of Taranaki, rain in most places also heavy about Taranaki north through to Auckland then easing to showers by late afternoon as winds change west to southwest. Showers clearing later at night.

To start in the morning conditions may be dry about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne with gusty north to northwesterly winds, showers could spread off the ranges at times however. Temperatures for most around the mid teens however up to 17 or 18 on parts of the east coast and in Northland before the change moves through.

Cloudy on the West Coast today with showers and westerlies, showers easing in the evening as a south to southwesterly wind change moves through. North of Greymouth showers should clear at night. Some rain about the top of the South Island in the morning with northerlies however clearing in the afternoon as winds tend west to southwest.

Canterbury and Otago will experience sunny weather with a little high cloud and light winds, southwesterlies move north starting in Otago from late afternoon bringing a period of showers. Sunny areas and some cloud in Southland with northwesterly breezes, that southwest change moves in mid afternoon however bringing showers. Low teen high’s expected about Southland and on the West Coast, mid teens elsewhere perhaps evening getting to 16 or 17 in Canterbury in the afternoon.

Title: Few thunderstorms in Fiordland, wet in the North Island but easing
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 16, 2012, 08:22:30 PM
Today looks to be shaping up mostly as expected. A front from the southwest is moving over Southland now bringing showers, Fiordland has experienced a few thunderstorms so far as it moves onto the ranges there. A few showers in other areas of the West Coast with mostly cloudy skies and some rain about northern regions cleared this morning however a few showers look to be moving into the area again from the west early this afternoon.

The east coast is receiving mostly sunny weather with some cloud about and light winds, temperatures are up to 18 degrees in Christchurch with even a few 19 degree readings about the district. Yesterday and today haven’t felt like winter in these parts, really makes the weather interesting considering on the 6th June we had heaps of snow and it didn’t go past 1 degree all day, and we are meant to be more into the depths of winter now? Some will try to come up with a theory for all the extremes but to me it’s just the weather and I love it’s diversity. It will change for a brief time later today in Canterbury as that southwest change currently in Southland moves through but tomorrow is looking like a sunny one again although temperatures should stick around the mid teens or perhaps a tad lower.

Heavy rain has pilled into the west of the North Island this morning however is now easing in some places, the east coast has been getting warm temperatures up into the high teens although with plenty of thick high cloud. Northland a little cooler then I initially expected about the mid teens, the cloud and rain must really be stopping it from creeping up although there is some time left in the day so perhaps a degree or two could be added to that yet.

No more heavy rain for New Zealand tomorrow, a few showers about still mainly in the North Island and southwest of the South Island. Becoming more settled and sunny by Wednesday as an anticyclone from the west moves in however showers will persist on the West Coast south of Greymouth.
