Tokoroa - 11:45

It started off cold and frosty - down to -2.2ºC with an overnight sou-easter breeze and a clear sky, switching now to a warmer nor-wester at around 5km/hr.  Now mostly cloudy out there - a full thin lumpy cumulus layer with slight breaks.  The gloom of a strong anti-cyclone. :)

Pretty full cloud cover in Waitakere and around Auckland now (quite a change) so we're unlikely to see temperatures plummeting as has been the pattern of the last several days - currently we're hovering around 10.3°C.  Today's high reached 12.9°C
Title: Wednesday’s national forecast
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 11, 2012, 07:53:20 PM
Mostly sunny weather across the North Island today with light winds after a frosty start, any morning fog patches quickly burn off. Some cloud may affect East Cape and the northern tip of Northland, also western coastal areas from Taranaki north through to Auckland should experience cloudy areas today. High’s in the mid teens once again for the far north, most other areas can expect high’s of 12 or 13 degrees.

Rain in Fiordland eases this afternoon, cloudy areas for the rest of the West Coast with light northwesterlies. Sunny in Nelson and most other areas of the South Island with light winds after a frosty start, there will be some high cloud about the lower half of the island at times however. 12 to 13 degree high’s in most areas although cooler single figure high’s in Central Otago.

Title: Anticyclonic gloom moves in
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 11, 2012, 08:17:01 PM
Gloomy cloud trapped under the influence of the anticyclone currently over us has moved onto western and central areas of the North Island today north of Taranaki, it’s mainly dry although there perhaps is a small risk of a shower on western coastlines. Other areas around the North Island look to be experiencing sunny weather, Northland is currently getting the warmest temperatures with high’s in the mid teens.

The South Island is doing quite well today and matching Northland's temperatures in some areas. The cloudiest place being Fiordland where there might be a few drizzle patches this afternoon with westerly breezes.

I’m quite happy here in Christchurch today where the mercury is hitting 14 degrees in some places around town which is nice after the frosts we had overnight, and there is no pesky northeasterly breezes either. It’s more of a light northerly about town today. Timaru is even beating us with 15 degrees currently, Ashburton is on 14 degrees although looks to of hit 15 an hour ago.

Most other place around the South Island look to be hitting 12 or 13 degrees so that’s not bad for a winters day.
