Not a new record here, but just so you feel a little better, my longest wet period in Waitakere has been 27 days, to 29th June 2011 - separated by just one "no rain" day at the start from a run of 8 rain days at the end of May... 'twas miserable...   :(

Record wind gust for me yesterday, 51.5 km/hr @ 6 pm 13/10/2012

Because of the shelter provided by hill contours and bush, we were getting easterly "back draft" winds here - up the hill where it is exposed it was blowing north westerly like the russian poet (Itztitzov).

Yesterday's major storm that came through West Auckland missed us as far as the damaging wind was concerned, but we had rain of biblical proportion that caused significant flooding in the valley.  No problems occurred for us (fortunately) other than a fair bit of the metal on our driveway scoured and washed down the slope requiring some effort to shovel it up and redistribute it.

Anyway, my record rain rate and hourly totals have been eclipsed.

One hour rain total is 31.2 mm (approx 30 mm of it actually came down in around 30 minutes)
Maximum rain rate of 576 mm/hr recorded

Every day now I see the green light flashing, as another rainless day is added to my station's All Time Records. This total is now up to 23 days since last recorded rainfall, the longest such period since I started recording on 1 Jan 2002....

In the six months from beginning Sept to end Feb, I have received a total of 131.8mm of rainfall. The totals NIWA 40yr means for those months is 334.1mm. By my maths, this works out to be 39% of normal.

Attached is a graph showing the actual rainfall recorded vs the means - stark contrasts... :o :o

This first week for July 2014 has seen the coldest over night lows I have on record with each night 3 or 4°C under the norm.

No where near what the south is experiencing but for us up over here, cold!!!

Today equaled my high gust of 51.5 km/h.  Sounds fairly pathetic but with the protection we've got from bush and hills that really is very high for here.   Could hear it building up in the trees further away and getting louder.

Some of you guys live in areas where your average wind is higher than the gusts I record - I won't swap you.  Even today, the high average wind speed recorded is just 12.9 km/h.

However I have got a new record wind run - currently 194 km (and still 3 hours to go)

Recorded the warmest August day here yesterday, 2nd August - reaching 20.6°C

This beats the previous station record (18.4°C on 8th August 2103) by a significant margin.

I have also recorded 18.8°C on 30th August 2009 - but that was pre Davis days when the sensor was in a different location too.

A lot of moaning and groaning is going on over here in Northern Hawkes Bay as the locals experience a cold, overcast August. Rainfall is pretty much normal but the cold southerly winds can be blamed for the decrease in temperatures.

Not a record but a pretty good stretch for May.

Consecutive Dry Days of 14 for the first 2 weeks of May.
Rainfall over that period in years gone should be around 70mm.

East coast is well done this May with Nuhaka recording the highest of 25mm and Gisborne averaging 15mm.
Wairoa has only had 1 decent rain day of 14.0mm.

This also sets the record for the Davis "Storm Rain" algorithm at 134.4mm (so far). This storm should be considered finished at around 4am tomorrow assuming there is no further rain.
