Situation for all New Zealand issued Sunday 8 Jul 2012
A high over the central Tasman Sea, extends a strong ridge across the country.
Monday
North Island, showers from East Cape to Napier, and isolated showers in the far north, mainly fine elsewhere but areas of morning cloud. South Island, a few showers about the fiords and Foveaux Strait, mostly fine elsewhere, but areas of morning fog and cloud.
Tuesday
North Island, the odd shower in the far north and a few showers from East Cape to Wairoa, mostly fine elsewhere but late cloud in the southwest. South Island, cloud increasing in the west, with drizzle spreading from the south into Westland, fine elsewhere apart from showers near Foveaux Strait.
Wednesday
North Island, fine apart from a few cloudy areas, mainly in the northeast and from Taranaki to Wellington. South Island,cloud increasing in the west, and some rain or drizzle south of the Glaciers, fine or becoming fine elsewhere.
Thursday
North Island, fine apart from a few cloudy areas, mainly from Taranaki to Wellington with patchy drizzle there. South Island, rain or drizzle in the west, heavy falls south of the Glaciers,mainly fine in the east.
Friday
North Island, fine apart from a few cloudy areas, mainly from Taranaki to Wellington with patchy drizzle there. South Island, rain in the west, with heavy falls in Westland and Fiordland, high cloud increasing in the east, with scattered rain in the far south.
Chatham Islands
Fine spells on Wednesday and Thursday. Cloudy periods increasing on Friday. Westerlies dying out on Wednesday, freshening northwesterlies on Friday.
