Light enough now to see the layer of cloud cover we have in Waitakere, temperature is 7.1°C at the moment but we got down to 5.1°C earlier.
Expecting this cloud will continue thickening through the day, at least for the moment it's dry outside - though that will change tomorrow...

Quite a pleasant morning in Waitakere now, cloud is much more broken and there are large patches of blue sky letting through some decent sun - stronger than yesterday.  Temperature is still cool at 7.8°C - but that's 4°C more than this time yesterday.
Still expecting cloud to thicken later, so will make the most of the sun while it's here.

Title: Sunday's national forecast
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 01, 2012, 11:00:02 PM
A small, but potent ridge of high pressure will keep the country’s weather pretty settled today.

Most areas should see plenty of sunshine with a mix of clouds from time to time.  Gisborne and East Cape may be in for a few showers today as a ribbon of disturbed air continues to linger just off the eastern coast.

Temperatures are starting off pretty cold, much like they did yesterday morning.  Highs will push into the lower to mid teens about the North Island and upper regions of the South Island.  The lower SI will struggle to break the 10 degree mark.

Title: Big frosts bite south
Post by: OhauitiWeather on July 01, 2012, 11:04:09 PM
Very low temperatures have greeted southerners this morning with hard frosts recorded in many areas in amongst sub zero conditions.

Dunedin airport and Queenstown got as low as minus seven degrees earlier this morning and Oamaru and Timaru also felt the very nippy air with minus five degrees.Frost readings in the centres mentioned were between seven and nine degrees.

Christchurch and Invercargill saw the thermometer plunge to minus three degrees with both cities recording seven degree frosts.

Clear skies have remained in most areas although a couple of coastal areas in the east have seen some cloud form.

Temperatures are likely to stay in single figures across central areas of the Mainland and probably southern districts as well with more heavy frosts possible there tonight with temperatures perhaps a degree colder than earlier this morning.
