Title: The modern Police force
Post by: TonyC on June 12, 2012, 04:51:08 PM
I travelled down SH1 from Domett to Christchurch this afternoon.  60km from Chch I passed a 4WD red & blue sitting on the side of the road obviously checking speeds. Fair enough. From that time I passed another five yellow and blue (road patrol) cars all heading north. Once in ChCh I saw another two yellow and blues writing tickets to motorists. Great to see you may think, keeping our roads safe.

Last Wednesday during the snow storm in Christchurch (and the east coast), there were several sets of traffic lights out (flashing orange) causing quite a bit of disruption. On my journey north, the traffic was held up for over an hour due to a truck sliding off the road. A lot of the holdup was due to no one being in charge. Was there a policeman in sight that day. Not a one did I see.

I'm old enough to remember the day when the police were public servants and dealt with tasks like directing traffic when needed. Now it appears writing tickets is the main objective and being useful in times of need is too demeaning especially for those in the yellow and blue vehicles.

That's my bitch for the day.............
