We thought we would start a Member's Web Cam Topic since many of our members have some awesome Weather Cams in action.
Embed your latest image which is either live or being over written every 5, 10 or 15 minutes is the way to go. This way the pages will fill up with images of live conditions at your location. Also add a link to your Weather Cam so other members may visit your site if they wish.
You may add other Station's Web Cams from around New Zealand but make sure you have their permission to add them. To embed your image, highlight your link and select the image button on the message toolbar. It is the first icon under the B. Any problems just ask.
With permission from Jom of Castle Hill I will start this topic with his 2 Web Cams.

As you all know I am just getting started with my webcam: this is the view, a short while ago, to my ENE...it is taken through the window, so not that sharp yet, as I seek best spots.

Here is my cam.
Looking South towards Auckland.
Using a HiLook IPC-B121H-M the garage.

Ok apologies here too - as i have three webcams - one a lot poorer than the other two.
The first two are out of the back of the garage and look over neighbouring farms to the NW and West.
I got a camera running early on as I feel it is a quick and accurate way of showing what the weather is by a picture rather than words and numbers
(http://www.inmanavenue.com/jpgwebcam.jpg)
This one is put up twice - the second time with the weather data added as shown above.
This one is off the top of the roof in a webcam box but I need to replace it with a better quality cam like the Logitech Quick Cam Pro 9000. It is viewing to the SW.
This one and the first have demisted windows.

Clyde, Otago.[/b]
Web cam is looking out towards the Obelisk Rock on top of the Old Man Range (1682M) Usually at this time of year the range would be carrying a good winter load of snow ... but not this year .. a mild start to winter, more cold and damp for us at the moment ... which is more South Otago than Central. Usually we experience long spells of frosts with an inversion layer over the valley's. Long may the mild winter last ... however we do need the snow for irrigation and power generation during summer.

That's frustrating the rain may have got at the cable - cos the camera I believe is well inside an outdoor spotlamp housing. I know they Logitech QC Pro 9000 cameras are sensitive about cable quality more than others in the series and more so than other breeds too.
Nice to see your pic John and normally of good quality out of the 9000 series. The pic appeared to be back to front when I viewed it earlier... :)
-
Good - I'm glad the picture is better today.. :)

Two webcam images - one with demisting, the other without... only 1 metre apart.

UPDATED 1 May 2023: It's probably about time for an update on my weather webcams as there has been a number of changes since I posted in 2020. I now have 3 webcams facing North, West and South. I sourced some cool little USB dome cameras which are designed to be used out doors. I did need to add some silica gel inside them as the south camera was fogging up sometimes. You can choose the lenses supplied with the product and I am quite happy with my wide angle choice however I think I'd choose the next side to make it less wide.
I continue to use "YAWCam" software and found I can run 3 instances of the program on one computer which is dedicated to running these webcams. The windows-based computer runs off a 100Ah 12V battery and 300w of solar array which also powers my air quality and ground sensors.

Palmerston North Weather Webcam (Sky Cam) is looking in a northerly direction. Foreground is the Palmy Weather weather station which is also illuminated at night. This webcam is updated every 15 minutes.
The Microsoft LifeCam HD5000 offers a true high quality image in wide screen. This is mounted into a ABS plastic weather-proof box with a 20m USB extension cable from the roof direct to the PC.

Updates every 5 minutes 90% of the time...the other 10% I have computer problems...old computer!! Using a Canon Powershot A85 and Canon Remote Capture (only works on XP) so when computer gives up the ghost the cam will be retired. First thing in the morning the sun gets right inside the box housing the camera so hence the sun strike.

Recently upgraded my cameras to 2x Stardot Netcam XL 3MP IP cameras.
The old cameras died with the faulty capacitor plague.

This a Hikvision DS-2CD3132-I IP cam (Fixed 2.3mm Wide angle lense with Auto IR) Pointing pretty much North. Im Situated just North west of Tauranga, you can just spot Mt Maunganui and Tauranga on the extreme right hand side of the image ..... Depending on you screen size you may have to scroll side to side as its a pretty wide shot .... Enjoy.

Hi Martin,
Actually it is Fall here in Canada and the snow will be coming in a few weeks, so the colour is still autumn for a little while...

My Foscam IPcamera stopped working 10 days ago. I replaced it with a HD model (ESCAM QD300) complete with NZ power adapter which I purchased from Banggod direct from China. It arrived within 7 days and cost NZ$74 postage included. I looked for a NZ retailer, but the cheapest was $130 for a 640x480 resolution one.
It's an impressive wee unit.

Nice Tony!!
And thanks for the source info, another item to add to the "ooooh I want one" list.

720 ain't HD, this is though ESCAM Brick QD900 WIFI 1080P P2P Cloud IP IR Waterproof Security Camera Sale - Banggood.com (http://www.banggood.com/ESCAM-Brick-QD900-WIFI-1080P-P2P-Cloud-IP-IR-Waterproof-Security-Camera-p-975583.html)
Sure has a lot of 'ways in' - not sure I could work one without putting my glasses on and asking a five year old :)
-
Precisely!
OK, 1280x720 isn't HD, but for a web page 1080p is a total waste anyway. As I said before, the best I could find locally was twice the price @ half the resolution. Maybe in the UK you can get better deals, I use the free version of iSpy to capture a frame every 60 seconds from two ethernet connected IP cameras . It's running on an old compaq with XP so the computer won't handle well cameras with higher resolution anyway. Setup with iSpy is a breeze. Just set the IP, select "search ONVIF using the IP" It recognizes what make of camera it is. You choose the resolution stream and click OK. Even septuagenerians can do it ;)

This one is at Sandy Bay, Port Charles (http://weather.zx.net.nz/s/sb/) (Coromandel Peninsular):
Updates once an hour during daylight only (when its working) for traffic cost reasons (the remote site only has a 3G/cellular internet connection). Also produces a time-lapse video every day but that won't appear here (no video embedding).
And this one is in space, not mine and not a webcam (Radiometer onboard one of three NOAA satellites). But I do own the hardware that receives the pictures :)
Updates whenever one of the satellites passes within range of my receiver. Typically at least three times in the morning and three in the evening. Other (bigger, possibly better) versions of the above image, plus all the others for today, are over at http://weather.zx.net.nz/s/rua2/ (down the bottom).

From memory Martin & Jenny, that Oban webcam image is from a very short term member, so the reference should perhaps be removed?
