New Plymouth should have been reported as 15 degrees, (14.6 degrees, rounded to 15). I Checked several other NZ stations and they were rounded up, not down.

Airport was 14.2 degrees and that would be rounded down to 14, obviously.

There was a long standing agreement made that Met Service would use the New Plymouth site to report daily temperatures to media( I won't go over old ground on this issue, it dates back decades and was concluded a number of years ago).

New Plymouth has records going back into the mid 19th century, whereas the airport, which has had two shifts, starts in the late 20th century. After that the official station in New Plymouth city was ignored.

The differences are not large in terms of maximum temperatures, but the minimum temperatures are often quite  different.
